About
Deltie

This page is the short version of who I am, what deltie.net is for, and why I keep building little pieces of independent infrastructure instead of handing every part of my digital life to big tech.

Who I am

operator note

I am Ottavian Ricci, though I usually go by as Tavi or Delta. I am a sociology student in Rotterdam, currently working part time at DHL eCommerce, and active in the socialist youth organisation: ROOD.

My interests sit somewhere between society and systems: political theory, infrastructure, media, optimisation, self-hosting, writing, and the awkward question of who actually owns the tools people rely on every day. (spoiler alert: its usually a stinky rich asshole)

I like learning by building. I find that way gives you a deep understanding of the fundamentals, and then all that is left is applying it! This site, the services behind it, and the server beside my shoe cabinet are partly practical tools and partly long-running experiments in understanding how digital infrastructure works when you stop treating it like magic.

What this is

deltie.net

deltie.net is my personal hub. It holds the boring-useful things: my CV, contact information, infrastructure notes, a services index, and political writing. The goal is to have one stable place I can hand to people without needing five platform profiles and a pile of context.

The more creative and media-heavy side lives at tavimedia.net. Deltie is the index, identity page, and public doorway. Tavimedia is the media archive and service ecosystem.

Why self-host?

not just a gimmick
Short answer I want more control over my own digital life. Self-hosting is not automatically cheaper, easier, or more reliable than big platforms, but it teaches you where dependency lives. It also makes privacy, ownership, repair, and autonomy feel less abstract. On top of that, I find big projects like these to be incredibly satisfying. For me, this is not just a practical thing, its a hobby too. For those who don't find it as fun, I am willing to help. Check out my contact page.
